The Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair have paid tribute to Prince on their US tour.

During a concert in New Orleans on Friday (April 22), frontman Billy Corgan and his touring bandmate Sierra Swan performed ‘The Cross’ from ‘Sign o’ the Times’, while Phair covered another classic, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.

Phair encouraged the audience to sing-along during her rendition of the 1985 ballad, which the late musician originally recorded with side project the Family. The track went on to find wider success when it was covered by Sinéad O’Connor in 1990.

Following Prince’s death last week, several musicians have remembered the star by covering his hits during concerts. At last weekend’s Coachella festival, LCD Soundsystem, Usher and Major Lazer, Sufjan Stevens, Ellie Goulding and Jack Ü all performed songs by the Purple One.

The ‘Purple Rain’ star died at his Paisley Park home on Thursday aged 57. He was found collapsed in a lift at his home, which doubled as a studio. He was pronounced dead at 10:07am on Thursday. A postmortem has been carried out but no cause of death has yet been confirmed.
